When I heal in battlegrounds, whilst moving with ESDF, I have target prev/next friendly target set to Q and A, which is really handy for blanket rejuvenations.
Agreed on push-to-talk.

Re: Blood tank spec in 3.3

Major concern points, for me, are covering the 3rd inhale on Fester, and phase 3 putricide. Beyond that, it gives some room on BQL as well, due to the aura, and I'm running with it glyphed, so it heals out the rest of the melee/Off tank too (if I'm hurting for heals, I know they are too). I can also see using it on sindrigosa, especially if we attempt to single tank it. Can the healers I go with handle the other two at this point? Pretty much. We're also doing Val at this point, and I'm the single tank in the room, so I also want the heal for after the Abom hits me.

Chaining CDs at the right time, on both my DK and Hunter, is one of my own "skill" issues. I'm getting better about it, and I find that using VB and RT together seems to help when you can't seem to keep ahead of the damage curve. I do need to put the RT icon back on my bars though, so I know when its not on CD to allow me to utilize it more frequently.

Re: Noob taunting mechanics question

So to boil down all the lumps into one, concise picture:

Taunts have two actions:
1.) Fixate = force the targets attention on you for 3 sec (does not happen if they're already targeting you)
2.) Matches your threat to the highest threat total on the table.

Pulling threat has the 10/30 rule:
Characters in melee range have to pass your threat total by 10% to pull threat (this is embedded in the % if you are using the built in threat %, so 100% is their pull point)
Characters at range have to pass your threat by 30% to pull.

So, to answer your final question:
Taunts will give you a short guarantee, and a lead. Sometimes tanks will have to be careful what they do to not pull threat back after a taunt. For DKs this can particularly be the case if you have a lingering Rune Strike.

Black Ice is not worth it no. You're also seriously gimping a lot including Survivability with your Spec. In short no it's not viable and you're giving up a lot just to give your DPS a tiny boost whih doesn't really seem worth it. Anyway use either this spec for more threat or this for more survivability if you really want to go Unholy. See the Tanking Guide Thread for the different Rotations.

Shadovar: you're very right. I had tried out Frost for the snap aggro (considering I was only going to be in 5 mans) and just couldn't get into it, which is why I spoke out for Unholy tanking. When Blizzard revealed that all tanking was going to be Blood in Cata, though, I bit the bullet and did a respec to Blood, working on my rotations and abilities by doing all of the BC dungeons solo before going back into WotLK heroics. Blood was MUCH more comfortable for an old Unholy DPS work horse such as myself.

I would like to add to this discussion, the following:

WotN is Not necessarily for normals and off-tanking, as you can see frost DK tanks surviving pretty well in such content, but the 15% extra reduction could be nice in some situations, according to your gear..

For heroic modes you would for the most like the talent as it is more or less (atleast on fester heroic) nearly always up because of the CD got removed in 3.3.3.
especially when you are MTing

Re: New IT threat too much?

About the only time I IT spam is for Blood Council. As we 2 tank the encounter, with me acting as sponge for Keleseth, IT spam is very useful. It allows me to collect my own orbs (using Deathcoil) without having to constantly head back into melee range to stack threat. It is arguable that this somewhat trivialises an encounter mechanic, I no longer need a ranged runner for orb relaying (post explained here) so it effectively gives us +1 DPS for the encounter as I assume it was originally designed for 3 "tanks", however I consider this a relatively minor exploitation of IT threat in the general scheme of things.

I also find it useful for reigning in casters that go rogue if Death-Grip and Strangulate are on CD, though that's not a spammage of IT, just a Dark Command followed by an IT to re-establish threat, its very handy for the packs infront of Deathwhisper but otherwise sees little use as a strategy.

Probably the largest exploitation is on Rotface, as an Ooze-kiter I purely rely on IT for threat, prior to the It change it was a real exercise in rune/runepower co-ordination to maintain threat on the big Oozes. I didnt get many opportunities to generate RP for Deathcoil as the only Rune power I used was IT, usually it came down to deliberately running into slime pools with AMS up to generate RP for a series of DC spams, now it's a case of spam 2 or 3 ITs and forget about Ooze threat, which does buy me more time to look at other aspects of the fight: like optimal kiting lines, Chains of Ice on small Oozes, slime pipe rotations, positioning for slime sprays and Ooze explosions.

For me these are all examples of how to ease the load of base tanking (maintaining threat) and allowing more time/focus to perform secondary functions, which given the slant Blizzard have taken for DKs in Cataclysm, seems to be the way they want DKs to develop.

My spec is 1target oriented, with 2/3 SoB and 2/2 Chill, IIT, w/o Epidemic neither Enless, 4/5KM and no Black Ice, i was doing 13k TPS in 25m ICC in singles with around 3k DPS, against Saurfang i saw Omen sometimes in 18-20k in the second part of my rotation (rotation is IT PS OB BS BS Horn OB OB IT PS OB OB OB IT PS BS BS OB OB, i know it is not exactly a rotation because of the death runes and i have to remember in wich step i am for longer time but after few hours doing the same thing it is easy).

Ell my point is a spec w/o epidemic is pretty solid for 1target, but it is still solid for AoE if you use GoHB, what you have to do is HB as fast as it is ready, and burst OB when it is in CD, using BB indeed and DnD on pull and if you have a nother one go for it, other important thing to do is switch targets always (tab could help), if you see some mob with low aggro then keep on him few seconds until 1 or 2 RS goes out (and in AoE it will keep going really fast), i usually use UA with Rune Tap too in the begining to increase mitigation and indeed threat, that will be enough.

To be honest i think frost is the most solid hybrid spec, mine is focused in singles but does excellent in AoE, rotation is hard and diseases are a thing to care a lot, but you will be safer agaisnt high end DPSers and the noob tank that is running with your guild for atest wont put you in ridiculous situations even if he taunts.

Vexill has decided to enjoy real life, so I've changed the owner to Insolence who has been the most active recent reviewer.
My thanks to Vexill for all his work, and I hope he gets to L80 in IRL too.

Re: The matrix of Blood specs

Even if that were so Blood doesn't have it's own GoHB which in the end makes it out to be inferior. At least until Cataclysm hits Frost will always dominate for AoE, but GoDnD and 2Piece create a good decent opener which helps with those 5 seconds of no runes after DnD IT PS PT.

Re: DRW Provides Threat Now

Not likely. There's a crash fix that is going into the next release. But the rotation update is a pretty big segment of work. I think I just got the basics worked out but it's still far from accurate.
